Past Service Learning Trips

In June 2009, a concerned group of HKUST students went to Sichuan to help and support the earthquake survivors in the region. They volunteered to teach science in elementary schools and comforted some families. Deeply moved by their own experience, this first group of students inspired their peers to carry on the tradition and redouble the efforts by making two more trips to the area and revisiting their friends in need in January and June 2010. 

In 2011, modeling after previous successes, more HKUST kicked off another project called "Light on Dreams" to inspire and encourage the Yi Minority schoolchildren in southwestern Sichuan. Our volunteers committed themselves to building a long-term and profound relationship with the rural communities, transcending culture, distance, and language. As such, the legacy of "Light on Dreams" is filled with heartening moments.
