Light on Dreams - Sichuan Service Learning Trip (Summer 2012)

To add on to the success of Light on Dreams last year, students continued to serve the Sichuan Yi (彝族) primary school students in summer 2012. The team stayed in Shaqiang Central Primary School for 4 days and provided Primary 4 and 5 students with various interactive activities. Their main aim was to build up the students' self-confidence through various activities and encourage them to express themselves.

Prior to departure, 14 participants attended a series of workshops to design the activities and learn how to work with children. The team spent one whole day for travelling and arrived at the school on 28 May. As this was a return visit to the school, the children welcomed our students warmly while recalling the names of some of our participants. During these 4 days, our students provided different activities for the children, such as science experiments, story book reading and straw painting. Our students also had a friendly basketball match with the teachers. We also performed at their celebration for International Children's Day (1 June). Our students built a close relationship with both the children and the teachers through those activities. On the last day, the group had a short cultural exploration tour in Leshan, Sichuan.
