Our Community
HKUST and its diverse schools are dedicated to community engagement through various outreach programs. These efforts promote social responsibility and active citizenship among students, faculty, and staff, and aim to impact the community positively. Here is our collective work of community engagement.
HKUST Connect
HKUST Connect is a community engagement initiative designed to promote civic awareness and build sustainable partnerships with the broader community. It offers a variety of community engagement programs tailored to students' readiness and ability to engage meaningfully with the community. Since 2016, HKUST Connect has aligned its efforts with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals, inspiring students to extend their impact beyond the classroom and promote sustainable development.
The initiative fosters a deeper understanding of community challenges by encouraging students to apply their knowledge to real-world problems. Through volunteering, hands-on projects and civic fellowships with non-profit organizations, students gain invaluable insights that cultivate their personal growth and social responsibility. By partnering with community organizations, educational institutions, and corporations, HKUST Connect delivers impactful programs that not only benefit recipients but also establish long-term collaborations for sustainable community development. Students emerge as informed global citizens, equipped with the tools and mindset to create positive change in their communities and beyond. Furthermore, HKUST Connect actively engages faculty and staff to support experiential learning, reflecting its dedication to education that serves a greater public purpose. Together, these efforts enhance the university’s commitment to fostering leadership and meaningful impact through civic engagement.
