House Building Projects with Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity is a world-wide NGO that aims to build simple, decent, and affordable houses to low-income families around the world, with the belief that every man, woman and child should have a safe place to live. HKUST students joined Habitat for Humanity as part of their movement to eliminate substandard housing in Southeast Asia by forming teams that serve in the Global Village Program.
In the past projects, HKUST students raised donation and traveled to different countries to build basic houses for underprivileged families, collaborating with home owners and other community members. They also helped restore houses for people in need and conveyed Habitat for Humanity's messages to the community. Through the programs, students learned about housing issues among the poor. They also built friendships with local people and gained a better understanding of other people's way of life.
