In June 2012, a team of 18 HKUST students and staff went to Conghua, Guangdong Province, China to help with Habitat for Humanity China's (HFHC) "Eliminating Mud Houses in Conghua District, Guangdong Province Project". Our team was welcomed by the local staff of HFHC as well as the villagers.

The team had a mission to build houses with local staff, experience workers and villagers this 5-day build. They completed tasks such as forming human chain to pass bricks, laying bricks to build walls, mixing cement, digging foundation, etc.

Besides the building tasks for the house, they also helped with the daily work of the villagers such as weeding, transferring bamboo, and other farming tasks. In between breaks and lunch, student interacted with locals, visited the local community and played games with them. Through these activities, our volunteers learned more about the culture of in Conghua.
