Rebranding to Global Days of Changemaking

In the past 9 years, HKUST Service Learning Day has become an annual tradition in HKUST. It coincided with Global Youth Service Day to call all HKUSTers to give back to their communities for one weekend each year. As the years progressed, Service Learning Day gradually grew to become a month-long annual event engaging around 900 HKUST students, alumni, faculty and staff every year.

In the 10th anniversary of HKUST Connect, HKUST Service Learning Day is rebranded as HKUST Global Days of Changemaking to reflect HKUST's commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and expand our scope to changemaking. Besides direct service and service learning, we encouraging HKUST community to support the movement through social innovation, social entrepreneurship, philanthropy and action to achieve the UN SDGs. We also engage overseas alumni and students currently on exchange to join in the effort to give back to their local communities wherever they are and become conscientious stewards of our society.

A Decade of Engagement

Since 2010, the number of student volunteers and partnering activities have increased as our students become increasingly aware of social issues. In coming years, we endeavor to encourage students to become civic aware global citizens.

Hundreds of HKUST students go on exchange every year and many seek internship opportunities abroad on study leave. When these students are temporarily outside of Hong Kong, they become guest members of their host communities. We believe that our student should serve their local communities wherever they are as engaged global citizens. Hence, these students and alumni living overseas are encouraged to pledge to take small daily actions to make a bigger change together. Through this exercise, we developed more responsible global citizens who are willing to go the extra mile to make the world a more benevolent place.
