Celebrating 10 Years of Community Engagement
Digitizing Community Service
To provide our students with more opportunities to outreach to the community, we became the first university in Hong Kong to partner with Social Career–a non-profit technology organization registered in Hong Kong. It provides an online interface to bridge the University with community organizations for lasting relationships that lead to positive impacts for society.
Social Career is a centralized platform to list volunteering opportunities and to process applications, it has streamlined our administrative process. This integration of technology with community engagement has allowed us to focus on providing more quality service learning experiences for our students.
Through the platform, students have access to volunteer opportunities beyond the campus, reaching out to an even wider community. The system also helps them to consolidate their community engagement record on a "Social CV", and provides incentives programs to redeem service hours. We encourage all student to embark on their journey of community service with HKUST Connect x Social Career and get involved in social causes and service activities. Students can carry forward of their records after graduation and continue their passion to serve the causes they care about.
In the future, I want to continue to serve my community by different approaches, including joining services in HKUST Connect and try to organize social services by myself in society. For me, HKUST Connect is a great platform for university student to explore different social issues and cultivate a sense of belongingness to HKUST campus as long as Hong Kong local community. Besides, after joining the program, I strongly believe that we can have personal growth like leadership skills and effective communication skills, which are very vital for us in real life working practice.
