When I reflect on my journey with HKUST Connect, I realize it wasn’t just about participating in community service
—it was a process of transformation that challenged my perspectives, shifted my values, and reshaped my understanding of myself and the world around me. Through engaging with diverse communities, each facing unique challenges, I’ve come to see service not as a series of isolated acts, but as an interconnected process of mutual learning, empathy, and growth. These experiences have not only shaped my outlook on social good but also ignited a stronger sense of purpose in how I approach my future and connect with those around me.

Joining HKUST Connect has been a transformative journey that reshaped the way I understand community engagement,
environmental sustainability, and social responsibility....... As a first-year international student from Vietnam, I came to Hong Kong with a background in educational volunteerism, particularly in underserved mountainous regions. I believed in the power of education to uplift lives. But through HKUST Connect, I realized that creating social good extends far beyond classroom teaching. It involves understanding, empathizing, and taking action across different spheres— environmental, cultural, and local community development...... Each of these experiences connected me with others in meaningful ways and taught me that real learning happens when we engage with pressing social issues and take action.

Frankly speaking, I did not expect to gain much from the HKUST Connect activities,
especially since most I attended were guest talks and workshops. Yet, surprisingly, each experience connected to the others in meaningful ways, collectively transforming my approach to life…… As I continue this journey, I carry with me the wisdom of those speakers whose stories changed my perspective: success isn't measured by immediate results, but by the persistence to keep moving forward despite uncertainty, one small, brave step at a time.
