Awards for Social Good
Do I need to complete the required number of events before I submit an award application?
No, you can submit your application ANYTIME before the deadline on 15 April 2026 (23:59) and fulfill the award requirements during the period.
Am I allowed to switch to another award tier after my initial application?
Certainly. Assessment of your award application will be based on the last application we receive from you by the deadline on 15 April 2026. You can switch to another award tier, e.g. Leader to Contributor/ Contributor to Builder, etc. as long as you fulfill the respective award requirements.
Is there a quota for each award? Will I be assured of receiving the award if I fulfill all the requirements?
There is no fixed limit on the number of awardees in each tier. This is a performance-based program designed to recognize students’
i) reflection for the Social Good Contributor journey,
ii) good performance in the development program for the Social Good Builder, or
iii) outstanding performance in the leadership development program for the Social Good Leader Award.
While fulfilling all the requirements does not guarantee that every submission will result in receiving an award, our program advisors are here to support you and will be happy to guide you toward success along the way.
I applied for the Award for Social Good last year. Can I apply again this year, either for the same or a different tier?
Absolutely! You are welcome to apply again. Please note that applications are evaluated independently each year based on the applicants’ current performance. Being an awardee in a previous year does not provide any advantage or increase your chances of receiving the award in the future.
What support is available to applicants?
We offer advising sessions to give Contributor and Leader Award applicants feedback on their reflection pieces. You can begin your reflection before completing all the events, and you are also welcome to make an appointment any time before 8 April 2026.
Is my engagement in the School’s ambassador/mentoring program considered as a leadership development program in the Social Good Leader Award?
No, only endorsed leadership development programs organized by HKUST Connect will be considered for the Leader Award. However, your engagement as student leader in the School’s specific ambassador/mentoring program can count as 1 event in any award category.
I am a member of the Connect ACE program who applied the Social Good Leader Award. Do the services I complete in my Connect ACE group count towards the number of required 4 events?
As a Connect ACE, the services your project team designs and implements are regarded as part of the leadership development program. You will need to join another 4 services/GUTS events to fulfill the Leader Award requirements.
