Go Green! Secondary School Aquaponics System Design Competition 2021

The Aquaponics in HKUST project aims to demonstrate an aquaponic farm yielding fishes and vegetables with the least consumption of resources. The project also hopes to demonstrate that green business is profitable and can promote environmental awareness, thus demonstrating a workable aquaponic farm to be implanted in an orphanage in Cambodia to help their community to be more self-sustained.

Eligibility

  • All current senior secondary students (Form 3 to Form 5) from Hong Kong Secondary School are welcomed. 
  • Each team should have 3-5 students.
  • Maximum number of teams per school is 3.

Competition Deliverables

Description

 Three people are presenting their idea
Different deliverables are expected from your team in two rounds of the competition. Details are as follows:

First Round

  • A presentation deck to explain the details of your aquaponics system and its implementation plan (max. 10 slides in PDF format)
  • A pre-recorded presentation video to introduce your team's aquaponics system (min. 3 minutes and max. 5 minutes long)

Final Round

  • A presentation deck to explain the details of your aquaponics system and its implementation plan, together with improvements from the first round proposal (max. 30 slides in PDF format)
  • A prototype model to better demonstrate the design of your aquaponics system
  • Live presentation to introduce your team’s aquaponics system and your prototype (either live present your prototype or pre-record a video of it and show during your presentation) (min. 9 minutes and max. 15 minutes long)

Mentorship

In each round of the competition, at least one student mentor from HKUST will be assigned to your team to provide guidance and aid communication between your team and the organiser. Details of the mentorship will be released during the briefing session, and once the mentorship starts, your team is expected to meet your mentor at least once before the First Round submission deadline.
