Golden Age Fitness Club 「耆」開得勝健身班
As people age, muscle mass and strength gradually decline, affecting mobility and independence. Many older adults reduce physical activity due to fear of injury, which further accelerates muscle loss, worsens balance, and limits social opportunities. Over time, this inactivity can increase the risk of developing chronic diseases.
In response to these challenges, four students from the Connect Ambassador for Community Engagement (Connect ACE) program partnered with the Tseung Kwan O Elderly Services Building to launch this service initiative. Volunteers were recruited to serve as "fitness buddies" for elderly community members, encouraging them to stay active through fun, game-based exercises. They assisted with training sessions, provided on-site guidance, and supported the elderly in building sustainable exercise habits.
Through this project, volunteers helped elderly participants improve their physical health and confidence while building meaningful intergenerational connections. Ultimately, the experience offered students a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by an aging population and highlighted the importance of community support in promoting healthy living.
