Jiangxi Service Learning Trip

22 HKUST volunteers headed to Jiangxi in June 2018 to visit left-behind children in Ruijin. They conducted a series of teaching activities in 2 schools, Longjiang Primary School and Huangtian Primary School. With the aim of inspiring children to explore their interests, our volunteers prepared and taught interactive classes on 4 different STEM topics including Geography, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Through teaching and having fun with the children after classes, our volunteers and the children spent a memorable time with each other.

In the days that followed, our volunteers carried out home visits in Huangtian village. They visited the families of the left-behind children and had an in-depth exchange with their family members, which allowed volunteers to understand more about their daily lives. Furthermore, our volunteers visited an organic farm and experienced farm works. Through working on the farm, volunteers learned more about organic farming and how the farm brought positive impact to the local community.
