Light on Dreams - Sichuan Service Learning Trip (Summer 2014)

Light on Dreams – Sichuan Service Learning Trip was a service project initiated by a group of students focused on serving impoverished Sichuan Yi (彝族) children. This year, a group of 19 students joined the project and continued to serve the children. The team spent 3 days in Shaqiang Central Primary School and prepared different teaching activities for Primary 4 and 5 students. The main aim was to empower the children to dream and encourage them to pursue their dreams. 

Before going to Sichuan, and to prepare for the teaching content, our students attended several workshops to learn about the Sichuan Yi history and culture and the needs of the children. They also reached out and organized a service named Reading Night for the local children in May. During the 3 days, our students provided different activities for the children, such as art and music, culture sharing, story book reading and science experiments. Throughout the activities, our volunteers and the local children bonded well and enjoyed the time spent together. After finishing all service activities, the team had a short cultural exploration tour in Chengdu, Sichuan to wrap up the service learning trip.
