Volunteer introducing low carbon diet to the family in a supermarket

This project initiated Connect ACE (Ambassador for Community Engagement) aimed to educate primary school students and their families about the concept of carbon footprints and to raise awareness about environmental issues. Day 1, the group went to the Zero Carbon Building with the families. Day 2, the group went hiking from Tseung Kwan O to HKUST, played interactive games, and taught recipes for low carbon diets to promote “green” living habits within the families.

Student Sharing

參加識「碳」生活義工服務讓我接觸到不同的人,由其是不同性格的小朋友。因此,在服務中我學會了如何與不同類型的人打開話題,相處,熟絡等。同時,其他義工和社工的指導或經驗分享亦十分有用,例如以競爭激起他們的投入程度等等。即使以往對環保方面有一些認識,但參觀零碳天地及活動中所得到的知識比以往的認知更深一層。

環境是一個我以前比較少接觸的課題,通常服務大家便會想到探訪老人院等等。面對一個新課題,當中所遇到的困難的確不少,最具挑戰性是如何吸引參加者對環保的興趣。雖然整個服務完成後,他們未必會即時全面地實踐低碳生活,但我相信低碳這概念已在小朋友心中埋下種子,日後遇到抉擇時會記起低碳。另外,由義工至整個活動的策劃、負責亦不容易。過程中明白原來籌備一個活動並非易事,但準備過程以至活動當日每個場境也令我非常難忘。
