From leading student initiatives at HKUST to building social enterprises like Kaifong Tour and One+ Some, alumnus Luke Tam shares his journey in social innovation. In this session, Luke will explore how community-based tourism creates shared value, how alumni can give back through initiatives like HKUSTours, and the candid realities of navigating hardship, burnout, and mental resilience when building a purpose-driven career.

HKUST Alumnus

Luke Tam is a social entrepreneur dedicated to building sustainable, human-centric communities across Hong Kong. He is the Co-founder and Executive Director of Kaifong Tour, a social enterprise that empowers neighborhoods through docent training and guided community tours across all 18 districts. Under his leadership, Kaifong Tour has launched impactful place-making initiatives—including district brands "The Fisher" and "Tung Chung Corner," alongside the "Local Community Tourism Platform"—to foster self-sufficient ecosystems rooted in local culture.

Deeply engaged in civic sector development, Luke serves on advisory committees for the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau, the Labour and Welfare Bureau, and the Sham Shui Po District Office. In recognition of his contributions to social innovation and heritage preservation, he was honored with the Spirit of Hong Kong Award (Spirit of Culture) in 2022 and named to Tatler’s Gen.T Leaders of Tomorrow (Social Innovation) list in 2025.

Extending his commitment to holistic well-being, Luke is a running coach and serves as the CFO & Advisor to One+ Some, an innovative social enterprise redefining mental wellness for young adults navigating high-pressure lives by encouraging active journeys toward personal autonomy and resilience.
