In response to the massive surge in food waste, especially after the Chinese New Year, 13 HKUST students volunteered at Food Angel's newly built food production centre to support local food rescue and hunger alleviation efforts.

Working collaboratively, our volunteers rolled up their sleeves to prepare nutritious meal boxes using high-quality surplus food collected from the local food industry. These freshly prepared meals were then distributed to underprivileged communities and the elderly across Hong Kong. Impressively, the team managed to pack a total of 1,663 meal boxes during their short session!

This meaningful event not only provided essential nourishment to vulnerable groups but also brought the critical issue of festive food surplus to light. The hands-on experience inspired our volunteers to reflect deeply on their own consumption habits and make more sustainable choices in their daily lives.
