Volunteers engaged ethnic minority children in group games and interactive activities, aimed at promoting social integration in the community and learning through play. Through this service, volunteers enhanced their understanding of ethnic minority families in Hong Kong, and learned to communicate with them while showing care to them.

Description

I would say as we grow, we would find it necessary to mask or hide your own emotions or real self from the others after joining this service. The innocence of the ethnic minority kids as well as the pure joy they showed on their faces when you spent time with them really reminded me that being true to yourself as well as being able to express yourself are key factors leading to a happy life.

The ethnic minority might find it hard to adapt to HK cultures. It is our obligation to promote our traditions to them through teaching them simple Chinese and HK culture. This will benefit yourself since you can learn more about their culture as well.

Originally got stereotyped impression of ethnic minorities, I do not expect myself to be able to chat and interact with them so enjoyably. Sometimes it’s about taking the initiative and to step forward. Then you might be surprised by what you will find. For the future, see if I can find some chances to engage in some long-term programs to understand other’s need more.
