Student removing overgrown weed at Fung Yuen Butterfly Reserve

In partnership with The Environmental Association, HKUST Connect organized a meaningful volunteering service at the Fung Yuen Butterfly Reserve to support the preservation of one of Hong Kong's most vital ecological sanctuaries.

During the service, our 14 student volunteers rolled up their sleeves to remove overgrown and invasive weeds, directly contributing to the maintenance of habitats that are crucial for sustaining diverse butterfly populations. Through this direct environmental stewardship, participants not only contributed to essential conservation work but also deepened their appreciation for local biodiversity. By learning about different species and their unique roles within our ecosystem, the volunteers returned with a stronger commitment to protecting the natural world.
