The Stitch Together Program 2024-2025, led by HKUST Connect and INNOTIER, is dedicated to repurposing and upcycling used antimicrobial fabrics (Ionic+™ fibers) to benefit the community and promote sustainability in Hong Kong by reducing landfill waste and showcasing practical sustainable living.

In Fall 2024, participants joined the Design Thinking and Idea Pitching Workshops to foster creativity and innovation. Through visits and interviews, teams learned the needs of their target recipients, the elderly and street cleaners, and developed tailored designs for them. Additionally, the Machine Sewing Workshop equipped participants with essential sewing techniques to bring their designs to life.

In Spring 2025, the two teams finalized their designs: sanitary hand pockets to protect the elderly from direct contact with lift buttons and door handles, and water bottle covers to help street cleaners maintain hygiene in demanding environments.

On Mass Production Day, participants collaborated to sew, assemble, and ensure quality control of their designs. This hands-on experience not only strengthened their skills but also fostered a sense of community and accomplishment.

The finished products were then distributed to street cleaners and the elderly during outreach sessions. Participants demonstrated their use, and recipients shared that the products made their daily routines safer and more convenient.

This Program not only contributes to a more sustainable future but also makes a positive impact on the lives of the target recipients. By fostering community engagement and promoting sustainable practices, the program inspires others to embrace a sustainable lifestyle.
