Students supporting the daily operations of the cat shelter

A group of HKUST students visited the Hong Kong Saving Cat and Dog Association (HKSCDA) to learn more about the organization’s mission of rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming abandoned and stray animals, particularly cats.

During the visit, students were introduced to the shelter's daily operations and the challenges its team faces, including limited resources, rising numbers of animal abandonments, and the need for public education on responsible pet ownership. Volunteers actively assisted by feeding the cats, cleaning their living spaces, and ensuring a safe, hygienic environment.

Beyond hands-on support, students spent time interacting with the rescued cats—many of whom came from difficult backgrounds—offering them comfort and affection. The experience deepened students’ empathy toward animals and shed light on the ongoing efforts required to protect Hong Kong’s vulnerable pet population.
