Hong Kong Sign Language Experiential Workshop

[This is an event in Gear Up Training Series (GUTS)]

What are the differences between Sign Language and hand gestures? Is Sign Language a universal language for deaf people over the globe? 

This workshop will be conducted by an experienced deaf instructor and a hearing instructor from SLCO Community Resources Limited, a local charitable institution which aims at promoting sign bilingualism in communication, education and social inclusion; and creating a diversified community without communication barrier. You will learn basic daily Hong Kong Sign Language (HKSL) and to communicate in a respectful way, as well as gain better understanding on deaf culture through interactive activities. 

Language: HKSL and English/Cantonese

Remarks:

  2. [Penalty for withdrawal after 10 Mar and/or absence] The event is fully subsidized by HKUST Connect. If you are unable to participate in the event as schedule, you should send us a written notification to connect@ust.hk as soon as possible, but no later than 10 Mar 2024 (Mon). Students who withdrawn after the deadline or absent from the event will be charged a HKD100 program fee.
  3. To avoid interruption and hindering the progress of the session, facilitators may not admit new participants who are late for more than 10 minutes.
  4. [HMAW 1905] This is a recognized event in the "Self-directed Experience" component of HMAW1905: Behavioral Foundations of University Education: Habits, Mindsets, and Wellness. To receive 2 hours, you must attend the event in full and miss no more than 10 mins.
