HKUST has partnered with SUPWAY Hong Kong, a local community organization, to co-host two inspiring events that unites individuals passionate about protecting our oceans, rivers, and waterways. This collaborative effort aimed to raise awareness about the important of preserving aquatic ecosystems and the impact of pollution on marine life and habitats.

Paddling in kayaks along the stunning coastline of Ting Kok, Tai Mei Tuk—home to the fourth largest mangrove forest in Hong Kong—volunteers navigated waterways impacted by human-generated refuse. This service event offered participants an unique opportunity to kayak while actively contributing to environmental cleanliness and the protection of vital local marine habitats.

Volunteers worked in teams focusing on trash collection on an island, where the majority of waste comprised plastics, glass, and metal cans. Over 40kg of trash was collected for proper disposal from the island. This hands-on experience served as a powerful reminder of the importance of reducing our impact on marine life by properly disposing of our waste on land.
