Our Community
HKUST and its diverse schools are dedicated to community engagement through various outreach programs. These efforts promote social responsibility and active citizenship among students, faculty, and staff, and aim to impact the community positively. Here is our collective work of community engagement.
HKUST Connect
HKUST Connect is a community engagement initiative that aims to promote civic awareness and sustainable partnerships with the wider community. It offers a variety of community engagement programs tailored to students' readiness and ability to engage with the community. The programs encourage students to understand community issues, apply knowledge, gain practical experience, or undertake civic fellowships in non-government organizations.
As part of its commitment to sustainability, HKUST Connect's programs align with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals since 2016, and encourages students to think about how their actions can support sustainable development outside the classroom. HKUST Connect also organizes an annual Global Service Day to mobilize students, faculty, staff, and alumni to engage in meaningful community service. This demonstrates the University's commitment to serving society beyond academic excellence.
HKUST Connect collaborates with community organizations, educational institutions, and corporations to organize impactful projects that benefit recipients and build partnerships for long-term community development. The program actively engages faculty and staff to facilitate experiential learning opportunities for students, demonstrating a commitment to education with a public purpose. HKUST Connect aims to help students become leaders who can make the world a better place for everyone.
