Students cleaning the abandoned fishing net on the beach

Hong Kong, well-known for its 733-kilometer-long coastline and natural beauty, also faces the challenges of marine pollution. According to a study on Hong Kong’s marine environment, around 15,000 tons of marine refuse was collected in Hong Kong waters every year.

Rubbish left on our stunning beaches will very likely be washed into the ocean and thus threaten the marine life. A large amount of polystyrene fragments have been washed up on the HKUST beach areas. Students helped to preserve our beautiful shorelines by cleaning up the rubbish in the beach. They have collected 10 bags of rubbish and learned to become a responsible nature lover to protect our natural environment.
