In collaboration with the Jockey Club PolyU Human Libraries Hub, HKUST Connect invited Jeffrey Andrews, an Indian descent born and raised in Hong Kong, to share his story with HKUST students.

Jeffrey shared about the challenges he, as a non-Chinese Hongkonger, encountered while he was growing up. Since he barely knew how to write Chinese, his results from the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE) were disappointing and he failed to continue his schooling. He even got arrested for fight and theft after graduating from secondary school. Fortunately, his life was changed with the help of social workers. Students treasured the opportunity and asked Jeffrey questions about his views on policies related to social inclusion. Through Jeffrey's sharing, students gained more understanding of the struggles faced by ethnic minorities in Hong Kong.
