Guizhou Service Learning Trip 貴州服務學習之旅
In June 2017, 8 HKUST students and 2 Connect staff visited Guizhou for the first time. During the trip, our volunteers served at a primary school in Dousheng village, Changshun, Guizhou. Through interactive activities and science experiments, primary students learnt English, Geography, Chemistry and Physics. After class, our volunteers spent time with the students and got to know more about their school lives as half of the students were living on campus due to the long travel time from home to school. Both our student volunteers and the children had an amazing time during and after classes.
In order to explore the possible activities for the next trip to Guizhou, volunteers visited the village groups and the newly built community to understand the lives of the locals. Through interviewing the elderly and children, the team had more understanding about the difficulties and challenges they faced.
In addition, volunteers participated in a traditional artwork workshop to make Guizhou cultural handicrafts to understand more about the cultures of ethnic minorities.
