Sew-cial Club Program 2025-2026
The Sew-cial Club is a student-led program that blends creativity, sustainability, and social impact. Established in 2023 under the name "Stitch Together", the initiative trains students in sewing and prototyping while using empathy-driven design thinking to address community needs.
In partnership with INNOTIER, the program focuses on repurposing used antimicrobial fabrics (Ionic+™ fibers) into practical items for the community. By reducing textile waste and demonstrating how discarded materials can be given a second life, the initiative actively promotes sustainability in Hong Kong.
In Fall 2025, participants attended Design Thinking and Idea Pitching Workshops to develop creative, user-centered solutions. Through visits and interviews with elderly individuals and wheelchair users, the teams gained firsthand insight into their daily challenges, which they translated into tailored product designs. A subsequent Machine Sewing Workshop then equipped participants with the practical skills needed to bring their concepts to life.
In Spring 2026, the teams finalized their designs: a lightweight antimicrobial pouch for storing small essentials and a cushion cover tailored for wheelchair seats. On Mass Production Day, participants worked together to sew, assemble, and quality-check the products. This collaboration strengthened both their technical abilities and their sense of shared achievement.
The finished products were distributed to wheelchair users and older adults during outreach sessions, where students also demonstrated how to use them. Recipients shared that the practical gifts made their daily routines safer and more convenient. Through this program, students not only contributed to environmental sustainability but also made a tangible difference in their community—inspiring others to embrace sustainable living and social engagement.

“Being a part of Sew-cial club showed me that meaningful change doesn’t have to be huge, even small, simple improvements can matter deeply to someone, and sometimes lending an ear to listen and understand is the first step in solving anything. I can start by noticing a small daily struggle, and let those improvements build over time. That is the kind of changemaker I want to be.
