Volunteers checking donated food supplies

The amount of unopened food being discarded into dumpsters has been staggering. Fourteen volunteers gathered at a food bank warehouse operated by Feeding Hong Kong to help process surplus food and beverages intended for airline passengers. The donated items include canned foods, nuts, bottled and carton drinks, and more. The volunteers inspected the expiry dates of the donations and sorted them into appropriate categories for packaging. Throughout the experience, they gained valuable insights into the issues of food waste and poverty in the city and were particularly shocked by the significant amount of food being wasted within the air travel industry.
