Volunteers updating maps of Ciamis North, Indonesia

Lying on the Pacific "Ring of Fire", Indonesia faces various natural disasters including volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, tsunamis, floods, etc. frequently. Those adverse events caused widespread destructions and the data on the digital maps we usually used are not updated timely. This delays the response time to reach people who need medical support and are in recovery.

In response to this gap, 10 volunteers supported the Missing Maps and American Red Cross to update the map of Ciamis North, and mapped over 1,200 buildings in the evening. The updated maps will be used for forecast-based action to reduce exposure to hazards, improve preparedness for adverse events, and lessen the vulnerability of people and property.
