Jiangxi Service Learning Trip (Jan 2019) 手牽「守童」行 ─ 江西服務學習之旅

This is the seventh year that HKUST Connect has visited Jiangxi. In 2019 Winter, 20 volunteers and 2 Connect staff revisited the two primary schools in Huangtian village and Longjiang village, Jiangxi.
Apart from bringing STEM knowledge (especially Science and Mathematics) to the children in Jiangxi, our volunteers also brought non-academic values to students. They learned more about Hong Kong festivals, conflict management, innovative thinking, teamwork and goal setting. This learning experience broadened their horizons and benefited their personal development. After two days of teaching, the volunteers visited several local families in Huangtian village and developed a better understanding of the left-behind children and rural life in Mainland China.
In addition to conducting teaching activities and home visits, volunteers also visited a social enterprise, “eco-Cultivation Agriculture Development Organic Farm (Ruijin) Co. Ltd.”. They learned how organic farming operations can positively impact the local community and reflected on what more can they contribute to a place that they we care about. The tour ended with a cultural visit to Yeping on the history of Jiangxi.
This 6-day service learning trip was short but fruitful. Neither our student volunteers nor the children in Jiangxi would ever forget these shared memories.
