HKUST SL Day Bread Run 惜食•麵包收集活動

During the HKUST SL Day Bread Run, volunteers helped pick up surplus bread from bakeries which were then delivered to Feeding Hong Kong. Across all of Hong Kong the Bread Run collected 1,100 pieces of bread from around 59 stores. The collected bread was redistributed by partnering NGOs to individuals and families in need.

We have always heard about food waste being a serious issue in Hong Kong, and we can certainly see this in the Bread Run. Even for bread in a certain store, there are already a lot of leftovers. Food is a scarce resource and we should really treasure it. Before we buy food, we should think thrice about whether we could finish them. Don’t be wasteful!

I was surprised during the Bread Run. I came from a country where a lot of food is wasted due to improper distribution channels. I was amazed at bout the community gives back to those in need and the efficiency in their work is amazing.
