Food Saving with Food Angel 「惜食」天使
HKUST volunteers assisted in preparing nutritious hot meals by using edible surplus food from different sectors of the food industry and packing them in meal boxes. The meal boxes were then redistributed to the underprivileged communities in Hong Kong.

This service opportunity has been quite an experience for me, and has opened my mind to various issues common in HK. It is not suprising to see tons and tons of food are wasted every day, but the impact of seeing a “mountain” load of shrimp dumplings that would otherwise be considered trash is much more different than just hearing about it. The most satisfying feeling that I felt during this opportunity is we are able to help those who are less fortunate, and we are making an impact to the society. Knowing that each of the packed lunch will feed a hungry person for the day, it’s enough to make the labor of an entire day worth it.

很高興今天到惜食堂參與義工服務，為有需要的長者及家庭準備一頓溫暖的晚飯，當中包括切食材及盛熱飯菜等各個崗位，各位義工都盡責地做好工作及與其他人互相合作。即使我為這些有需要人士所付出的只是很少，希望他們能夠感受到社會各界人士對他們的關心。
