Jiangxi Service Learning Trip

During the winter of 2018, 17 HKUST students went back to Jiangxi again to visit left-behind children. In the first two days, they carried out some STEM teaching classes at Longjiang Primary School and Huangtian Primary School respectively. During the interactive classes, the children were able to have a taste of some scientific knowledge. Our students also designed some non-academic topics including World Citizenship and Art. Both the children and our students had an enjoyable and special school day.

In the next few days, students were divided into groups and visited the local families of the left-behind children in Huangtian village. They had a deep talk with the parents and had a more complete understanding of their lives and living conditions. Besides, students experienced farm work on a local organic farm. Through detailed explanations provided by the farmer, students learned more about the positive impacts created and the challenges faced by the farm.
