Dream Reacher: Workshops for Indonesian Migrant Workers in Hong Kong 在港印尼夢工坊
REDbird Award Program, HKUST initiated a project for Indonesian migrant workers to enhance their skill in academically-related fields such as CV writing and video editing. Through different workshops and interactions with the workers, volunteers were amazed by the workers' hard work and optimism.
Student Sharing
While working as a migrant domestic helper, a lot of Indonesian workers spend their Sundays, their only day off, attending classes and workshops in order to upskill themselves, as an action towards having a better job, better living and achieving their dreams. They are willing to spend >2 hours to travel from their boss’ house to the workshop venue to learn about public speaking/CV writing/business planning/ etc. Through conversation with them, I know that some of them are even pursuing bachelor degrees via online courses, and they have regular exams and assignments. They usually wake up early/sleep late to do their assignment outside working hours. I am fascinated and inspired by their willingness to always improve themselves despite their current condition. Looking at their enthusiasm encouraged us, "DreamReacherHK", to keep serving society by holding more educational workshops. In addition, recruiting fellow students as volunteers helped bridge the limited interaction between university students and migrant workers. I wish other students can also be inspired to work hard, utilize all the opportunities they have, and also give back to society.

I documented the activities of the workshop. By taking the photography and videos of how the event goes, I realized that Indonesian migrant workers are motivated to learn more for a better career. Having done this kind of voluntary activity for the second times, I am more motivated to participate for the 3rd.
