For various reasons, many new immigrant children in Hong Kong do not have any chance to receive any English tutorial class. Consequently, they often lose interest in learning the language. In order to stimulate children's interest in English learning, volunteers organized this service to teach them English through interactive games and dialogue, with Hong Kong culture as the theme. Volunteers were also able to understand more about the children's current needs through the service.

Student Sharing

Description

It was such a great and fun day to interact with children through games, chatting, and also teaching English. I was honored to answer questions asked by smart children all the way during the tour guiding session - it was great to meet curious and cute children. The service day helped me learn to be happy and view life simply like children. Also, I learnt to be patient and learnt to chat with children as equals. The chance of serving has given me a channel to share love and care to primary students, to learn through fun and games.

Through this service, I learnt to identify other’s needs, respect the difference of each individual and to motivate others. As one of the ‘TA’s, I often need to get those inactive children to participate in the English learning activities by guiding them step-by-step, making them step out of their comfort zone. Good Experience!!
