Co-organized by Hong Kong Special Olympics (HKSO) and the Hong Kong Sports Association for the Mentally Handicapped, the Special Olympics Hong Kong 40th Anniversary Invitational Games (香港特殊奧運會40週年邀請賽) were held in November 2016. This event aims to enhance both physical and mental development of intellectually disabled person, and to connect them to the wider community. More than 400 athletes from local teams and overseas teams from Special Olympics East Asia joined the Invitational Games. HKUST students served in different roles such as escorting participants and guests, and providing administrative support during the aquatics sports competition.
