Food waste contributes 36% of the total municipal solid waste in Hong Kong.  The disposed 3,300 tons of biodegradable food waste is taking up the limited landfill area which is not a sustainable way to handle the issue.  Therefore, the local green group Ever Green Association has continued their effort since 2013 to decrease the amount of food waste with their campaign “Food Share We Care” (「愛‧共饗」)  HKUST students joined the service to give a helping hand in collecting unsold fresh vegetables from a wet market, then sorting and re-distributing them to elderly in need.

Volunteers finished sorting unsold food collected in the wet market.
