Volunteers doing handicraft with the children

With reference to the rapid growth of food price, Baptist Oi Kwan Social Service (BOKSS) has been providing inexpensive meals for low-income families to ease their financial burden. Apart from food services, the organization also extended their services to the underprivileged children. HKUST volunteers were recruited to provide tutorial classes, play interactive games and make handicrafts with these children in the canteens located in Tai Kok Tsui and To Kwa Wan.

Description

I was never good with kids. Never know how to approach them, always feel awkward. Today was unexpected. The kids were very approachable. We played games (angry bird) and made a handcraft (paper shark). I realize the best way to interact with kids is to just open up, don’t be too serious, or just try to be kids. I was aware that services like Kiddy Heart Canteen exist. But never was sure who would need such services, or how these services could help. Kiddy Heart Canteen not only provide a platform for adults with similar experiences to find friends and support from each other, but also for kids to get help with their homework, and simply just to have fun.
