Cho Yiu Lunar New Year Visit

With the increasing population of elderly in Hong Kong, the number of residents aged 60 or above now accounts for approximately 32% of some 90,000 public housing tenants. To address this issue, the Housing Society launched the "Ageing-in-Place" (AIP) Scheme to allow elderly tenants to “age-in-place” by providing support services through a “one-stop” support network.

Chinese New Year is an important traditional Chinese holiday celebrated at the turn of the Chinese calendar. Before Chinese New Year, every family will thoroughly cleanse the house, in order to sweep away any ill-fortune and to make way for good incoming luck. Windows and doors will be decorated with red color paper-cuts and couplets with popular themes of "good fortune" or "happiness", "wealth", and "longevity." HKUST volunteers visited the elders living at the Cho Yiu Estate to share with them the joy in this festive season and bring them red couplets and small gifts for a prosperous year to come! Kung Hei Fat Choi!
