Demonstrating the leaf vein bookmark making process

To promote the integration of South Asians into Hong Kong society, Hong Kong Christian Service: Integrated Service Centre for Local South Asians (ISSA) conducts training workshops and various activities to provide support to local South Asians in the West Kowloon districts, develop and harness their strengths, and build up a support network.

With the help of 8 HKUST volunteers, a short summer program was organized to foster cultural exchange between our students and South Asian children through interesting science activities. The children had a fun time as the volunteers taught them how to make leaf vein bookmarks and the science behind them. The volunteers were amazed by the children’s creativity and bookmark designs!

The program included an outing on a Saturday afternoon to the Tsim Sha Tsui area, aiming to broaden the children's horizons and experiences beyond their own district. They had fun playing check-point games at the Avenue of Stars, appreciating the beauty of Victoria Harbor, and watching a marine documentary film at the Hong Kong Space Museum.
