With the population of elderly increasing in Hong Kong, the number of residents aged 60 or above now accounts for approximately 32% of some 90,000 public housing tenants. To address this issue, the Housing Society launched the “Ageing-in-Place” (AIP) Scheme to allow elderly tenants to “age-in-place” by providing support services through a “one-stop” support network. The Scheme was piloted at Cho Yiu Chuen last year.

HKUST volunteers conducted home visits to meet and greet elders in support of this program. The volunteers chatted with the elderly about many topics, even personal life stories. The volunteers also brought along care packages for the elders, sponsored by the HSBC Share-To-Care Volunteer Campaign.
