A group of HKUST students had a valuable volunteering experience in Australia for 17 days from 5 to 22 January 2011, assisting CVA in conservation work. During the trip, the students participated in a diversity of important projects to protect and enhance the environment, such as assisting in flood damage reconstruction and conserving the coastal habitat. The students developed friendships with their CVA team leaders as well as the local and other overseas volunteers and gained great experience in cultural exchange. Additionally, the students also learned about teamwork, responsibility, and duty in their daily life after work.  During the weekends, the students did some cultural visits so that they can learn more about the history and culture of Australia.  Debriefing and sharing sessions were arranged in the evenings and these sessions brought the students closer as a team, and also allowed everyone to share their insights with each other.
