Securing blood safety and sustainability in Hong Kong

Despite technological advances in medicine, blood product is still an irreplaceable treatment for patients who need transfusion. It is imperative to secure a safe and sustainable blood supply in the era of aging population and emerging infectious diseases.
Dr Kong Shun Yin, Head of Blood Collection and Donor Recruitment at the Hong Kong Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service, will explore the challenges of blood collection in Hong Kong and why blood safety and sustainability matter to us all. Donated blood supports patients, families, and communities every day, yet many only think about it when it is urgently needed. Join this inspiring talk to learn how donated blood is protected and how each of us can help safeguard this vital lifeline for Hong Kong.

Head of Department of Blood Collection and Donor Recruitment of the Hong Kong Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service ; Clinical Assistant Professor (Honorary) of the JC School of Public Health and Primary Care, CUHK ; Member of the Donors and Donations Working Party of the International Society of Blood Transfusion
Dr Kong Shun Yin graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and is a specialist in Haematology and Haematological Oncology. He is currently serving as the Head of Department of Blood Collection and Donor Recruitment, Hong Kong Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service, and the Clinical Assistant Professor (Honorary) of the JC School of Public Health and Primary Care, CUHK. He is also a member of the Donors and Donations Working Party of the International Society of Blood Transfusion.
Dr Kong has special interest in donor hemovigilance and patient blood management. He has been recognized with the Young Achiever Award by the Hospital Authority in 2024 and the Excellence in Patient Care Award by the Royal College of Physicians in 2026.
