Community Outreach Program (COP) is an inter-discipline educational activity set to give a learning experience to the students by living in the community to give respond to the actual social life & help the community development problems. This program is a part of the curricula for bachelor degree as well as the supporting medium to foster community development.

COP has been running for more than 20 years. Every year, students from various countries in Asia and Europe including Hong Kong, Taiwan, China, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea and Netherlands will join hands to solve community problems. The program provides an excellent opportunity for students to mingle with people from all over the world. During the intensive 2-4 weeks' time, students will have chances to handle several major and minor projects. They can learn to work and live together with people from different backgrounds which in turn widen their cultural exposure and strengthen their communication skills.

If you want to step out of your comfort zone and get in touch with the wider world, this is the golden chance for you. You will be able to explore the world from a social perspective, as well as work on various projects based on the needs of the community in the rural area. COP 2023 Theme

For COP 2023, we have a theme, that is “Community Development in Covid-19 Pandemic”. This theme cannot be separated seeing the condition of Surabaya City or even the whole world which is currently struggling in the midst of Covid-19 Pandemic. On the other hand, this condition opens up a new chance for some people to care each other and shows sympathy and empathy for other people. We hope this theme engages people who want to help, contribute, and be a blessing for the community in term of handling this pandemic.

Program Fee

US$460 (approximate HK$ 3,680)

Program fee includes:

Program cost
Accommodation & meals during staying at the village
Accommodation & meals on the first and the last day
Transportation from Sumba Airport to residence and vice versa
Transportation from the Sumba city to the village and vice versa
Program T-shirt, name tag, COP guidebook, memory book and certificate
Some logistics: tissue and water

Program fee does NOT include:

Air ticket, optional activities, personal expenses, traveler's visa (if applicable) and additional travel insurance

Subsidies

(A) Connect Overseas Learning Experience Sponsorship Scheme (OLESS) (Details)
Student may apply for OSLG to receive subsidy to cover part of the program fee and airfare. Additional consideration will be given to those with financial need.

(B) Pre-approval of OLESS for Recipients of Tertiary Student Finance Scheme (TSFS) government grant & loan (Present “Notification of Result” of TSFS during interview)
In order to lessen the financial burden on government grant & loan recipients paying the full program fee up front, subject to the submission of a copy of TSFS notification of result to connect@ust.hk before the application deadline and satisfactory completion of the program, grant recipients will get pre-approval of OSLG.

Application Procedures

Please complete the online application form.
Interview will be held on 11 April 2023. Shortlisted applicants will be notified via email.

Remarks

Successful applicants will receive an e-mail about the details and arrangement of the program.
Participants will get day offs on Sundays; however participants are not allowed to leave the regency during the weekends.
