Roman lettuce in the Aquaponics system

“Aquaponics in HKUST” is one of the projects funded by HKUST Sustainable Smart Campus as a Living Lab. The project aims to demonstrate an aquaponic farm yielding fishes and vegetables with the least consumption of resources, promoting environmental awareness, and illustrating the feasibility of green business in Hong Kong.

Our education team will be focusing to develop educational materials to promote the ideas of aquaponics and urban farming. In Spring 2021, we will organize an aquaponics design competition among Hong Kong secondary schools. We are looking for more students who are interested in sustainability and new way of farming to join our team to help organize this competition for promoting the ideas of aquaponics to different sectors of people. You are not required to have prior knowledge about aquaponics. We will offer briefing, basic training and a visit to our Aquaponics system in HKUST.

Participants of the Aquaponics Education Team will be responsible to:

  • Organize an aquaponics design competition for secondary school students in Hong Kong.
  • Plan and conduct different education campaigns to promote aquaponics and sustainability.
  • Manage Aquaponics in HKUST Project social media accounts.
