HKUST Connect 10th Anniversary Best Service Project Award

2019 marks the 10th anniversary of HKUST Connect. Over the past decade, we have collaborated with over 280 community organizations and faculty members to raise civic awareness and empower students in creating positive change for local, regional and international communities. To celebrate the social impact of our work together, we are recognizing students and alumni who have demonstrated leadership and commitment in community engagement by selecting the most outstanding 10 service projects since our establishment.

Eligibility

  • Service Projects that have been:
    - initiated and implemented by students and alumni while they are/were studying in HKUST; and
    - delivered between Academic Year 2009-10 to 2018-19.
  • Completed and ongoing Service Projects are both accepted. For ongoing projects, direct service to the targeted communities must be provided on or before 31 January 2019.
  • The applicant must have taken a leadership role in initiating and implementing the Service Project (Example: a member of the project organizing committee). 

Award

  • Each awarded Service Project will receive a HK$3,000 cash prize and a certificate of recognition.
  • A maximum of 2 representatives from the awarded Service Project team will be invited to join the Award Presentation & HKUST Connect 10th Anniversary Celebration Dinner on 12 April 2019.

Selection Criteria

Only social service projects will be accepted for application. When reviewing the application, due consideration will be given to, inter alia, the following factors:

  • The degree of student participation and initiative
  • Impact on served communities
  • Effectiveness and efficiency of resource utilization
  • Sustainability and continuation of the project
  • Breadth and depth of student learning

1. Who is eligible to apply for the Best Service Projects Award?

Students and alumni who have initated and implemented service projects as full-time or part-time HKUST students between Academic Year 2009-10 and 2018-19.

2. How do I apply for the Best Service Projects Award?

You can apply by completeing the application form on or before 10 March 2019 (Sun).

3. How will I know that my application for the Best Service Project Award has been received?

You will receive a confirmation email within 3 working days upon successful online application. Please contact us at ccp@ust.hk if you have not heard from us within the specified timeframe.

4. What is the Organization Endorsement Form for?

The Organization Endorsement Form should be endorsed and signed by the partner organization, and submitted together with the application form online as a supporting document to certify the completion of your service project.

5. How will the best service projects being selected?

The panel members will select the Service Projects by considering, inter alia, the following criteria:

  • The degree of student participation and initiative
  • Impact on served communities
  • Effectiveness and efficiency of resource utilization
  • Sustainability and continuation of the project
  • Breadth and depth of student learning

6. If the Service Project is implemented after my graduation, is it still eligible for the award?

No, the award aims to recognize HKUST full-time and part-time students who contributed to community needs by taking the initiative to develop service projects during their university studies.

7. Are Service Projects conducted overseas eligible for the award?

Yes, Service Projects implemented either in or outside Hong Kong are eligible.

8. If the Service Project is a component of a program funded or organized by a third-party organization, is it eligible for the award?

Yes, but only if it is initiated, planned and implemented by HKUST full-time and part-time students.

9. If non-HKUST individuals and/or groups are involved in the planning and implementation, is my Service Project still eligible for the award?

Yes, but at least one of the organizing committee members must be a HKUST full-time or part-time student during the project planning and implementation. Documentary evidence of the member’s HKUST student identity may be required.

10. If the Service Project is initiated by non-HKUST bodies, is the Project eligible for the award?

No, only Service Projects that are/were initiated and implemented by HKUST full-time and part-time students are eligible.

11. If I am a participant of the Service Project, can I apply for the award?

No, applicants must have taken a leadership role in the initial conception, planning and implementation of the Service Project. Documentation of the roles they had contributed in the Project will be required.

12. When will I receive the results of my application?

You will be notified of the results in April 2019 by email.
