Hong Kong, well-known for its 733-kilometer-long coastline and natural beauty, also faces the challenges of marine pollution. According to the latest report released by the Environmental Protection Department, 14,862 tonnes of marine refuse were collected in Hong Kong waters in 2019. Rubbish left on our stunning beaches will very likely be swamped into the ocean and thus threaten the marine life.
HKUST Connect is recruiting volunteers to clean up the beach in Sai Kung using kayak to protect our precious ocean under guidance. Volunteers will also have the chance to recycle the rubbish collected into waterproof bag and learn more about plastic pollution in HK.
