Stitch Together Program 2023-2024
The Stitch Together Program 2023-2024, led by HKUST Connect and INNOTIER, is dedicated to repurposing and upcycling used antimicrobial fabrics (Ionic+™ fibers) to benefit the community and promote sustainability in Hong Kong. With a focus on reducing landfill waste and minimizing resource consumption, the program aims to showcase the practicality of a sustainable lifestyle.
During the Fall Term of 2023, the design team actively engaged in creating practical gifts for their intended recipients. They designed oversleeves for street cleaners to provide added protection during their work. Additionally, team members created wheelchair organizers for wheelchair users, enhancing convenience and accessibility. These products were meticulously crafted using repurposed fabrics, emphasizing the value of upcycling.
In the Spring Term of 2024, the design team collaborated with the production team to finalize the product designs for mass production. Sewing training sessions were conducted to prepare for the production phase. In April, team members produced the products and distributed them to street cleaners and wheelchair users during Global Service Day 2024.
The Stitch Together Program not only contributes to a more sustainable future but also makes a positive impact on the lives of the target recipients. By fostering community engagement and promoting sustainable practices, the program inspires others to embrace a sustainable lifestyle.
