StoryAd x HKUST — In search of Hongkongers
[This is an Experience under Project C - Connect x Community]
Join this StoryAd to interact with the human book and understand the struggles faced by ethnic minorities in Hong Kong!
The 2016 Population By-census found that there were about 580,000 non-Chinese in Hong Kong. Young people with ethnic minority background experience obstacles in school and workplace due to structural difficulties in acquiring Chinese language in a less favorable language environment and system.
Being an Indian descent born and raised in Hong Kong, Jeffrey can speak fluent Cantonese yet barely knows how to write Chinese. After a disappointing result at the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE) and failing to continue his education, Jeffrey was led astray and even arrested for fight and theft when he was 19. Luckily, Jeffrey obtained bail with the help of social workers, and this changed Jeffrey's life.
HKUST Connect invites Jeffrey to share his story and struggles being as an Indian Hongkonger. You will be able to talk with him and understand the life of ethnic minority in Hong Kong.
